Yup, that’s right. I got rear-ended. Son of a monkey’s uncle!

Any bumper damage?

Seems that bumper can hang on but the hatch will get tossed. I would guess a full sized pickup based on the height of the dent.

It got hit and definitely has paint damage. Who knows what lurks underneath? The lower valance is also out of whack. At last my car is
drive-able
and the shop can get it in next W
ednesday.

When you buy a part to fix something but the world curses you with even more damage to that specific something

I hope you told the other driver that you just had the car fixed, and that they should’ve allowed for more stopping distance in those conditions.
Or were they purposely trying to lose money?

Michigan is a no fault state, so the other driver don’t be on the hook for the hatch (there’s some mini-tort thing that might make them pay something). They will of course have to deal with the damage to their truck (if they want it fixed).

You are correct, Sir. It was a Ram 1500.

Thanks, I appreciate your sympathy. At least no one got hurt, the car still drives and the claims process with my insurance is actually pretty pleasant.

Thanks. At least it’s just material damage. The shop is right next to where it happene
d so I stopped right in and got it on the schedule.

The road was actually cleared, maybe mildly damp. He just wasn’t payi

Apparently he didn’t realize you are supposed to stop where the stop line is. I did point that out and his tone immediately changed from “
WTF?” to “I am
so
sorry, are you OK?”

Back to my comment in the Mustang thread about better driver training and testing then... At least he learned something I guess.

That’s why you never get those kinds of repairs done in the winter. Especially in MI. Years ago my wife’s car got rear ended and she was going to get it all fixed up, but we were heading into winter, so I had her hold off till spring. But it wasn’t to bad a hit, cosmetically at least. The bumper bar needed to be replaced, but yeah, not before the snow flies.

Af ter the first accident the car wasn’t driv able, so we really had no ch oice, but maybe this time we should wait.

I hope he learned something. I’m amazed at how many people do not know or completely ignore the most basic traffic laws on a daily basis.

Gotcha, yeah if it’s not drivable, that’s a whole other thing. But for this last one, no real rush. Did you file a mini tort for either incident? You can recoup a few bucks and it’s just a bit of paperwork.

I looked into it. I have broad collision , so my insurance waives the deductible if the other party is at fault. S ince you can only claim vehicle da mage in a mini-tort in Michigan and my insurance more than covered it , I have nothing to claim , unfortunately. This time it will be the same with the deductible.
Thank s for the tip, though.
